3600 listed accommodations
This is the number of unusual accommodations listed in France, for a total of nearly 10,000 accommodation modules. Just over 500 of these sites are campsites, the others are mainly bed and breakfasts or lodges. “This upstream census required several months of research to lead to the creation of a national database, which had never been established before, explains the Hôtes-Insolites agency. The research was carried out in two stages: it was first necessary to go around the 26 sites specializing in the referencing of unusual accommodation in France as well as the main large platforms such as Airbnb and Booking and the Leboncoin site, and then resume keyword research on all French departments. »
142 euros on average
The Hôtes-Insolites agency then commissioned the specialist firm Protourisme to interview the hosts. Of the 3,000 interviewed, 370 agreed to provide their figures. Figures from which it appears in particular that the average budget for one night reaches 142 euros per room.

A turnover of 220 million euros
All the data collected makes it possible to estimate an overall turnover of 220 million euros in France on the unusual accommodation market.
40% of accommodations are very recent
Since its appearance at the end of the 90s, unusual accommodation has developed very irregularly, notes the Hôtes-Insolites agency. Despite a sharp drop in prices in 2020 due to the pandemic, this market has experienced a very marked boost in recent years, since 40% of unusual accommodations have seen the light of day since 2018.

This is the share of unusual accommodation that offers hotel services (breakfast, beds made on arrival, cleaning included, etc.). “If the first accommodations (teepees, trailers and perched huts) were in “Robinson Crusoe” mode, this time is now over, analyzes the Hôtes-Insolites agency: only 4% of the accommodations questioned offer no comfort (nor water , or electricity) while 17% offer a hot tub or sauna type service. 58% of sites offer wifi access.
