Tourists will pay more for their Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization from December 1, 2022.
Sri Lanka, seriously affected this year by a historic political and economic crisis, wishes to put in place budgetary reform measures to start earning more foreign exchange, essential to the stabilization of the country and thus avoid a return to the crisis.
In his speech presenting the 2023 budget to parliament last week, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickramasinghe developed the various economic measures that will soon be applicable, measures including in particular an increase in the costs of issuing passports, visas and other services of the Department of Immigration and Emigration.

$15 more for electronic travel authorization
In a press release published this Friday, November 25, the Department of Immigration and Emigration of Sri Lanka unveils the new fees for visas and Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) which will come into effect from from December 1, 2022.
Currently set at 35 US$, or about 34 €, the price of the tourist ETA requested online before departure for Sri Lanka will increase to 50 US$ (about 48 €) in a few days. Business travelers will have to pay US$55 to obtain their electronic travel authorization on the internet before the trip.
For travelers wishing to claim their ETA upon arrival in Sri Lanka , the cost will be 60 US$ (about 58 €) for tourists, instead of the 40 US$ currently charged, and 65 US$ for business visitors.
Seniors who are considering an extended stay in Sri Lanka under the “My Dream Home” program will have to pay 200 US$, or 50 US$ more, for the issuance of their renewable residence visa valid for 2 years.
Passengers in transit as well as children under 12 will be the only ones not affected by these increases in visa fees, the ETA electronic travel authorization remaining free for the latter from December 1, 2022.
