The leader in seasonal rentals is launching a fund endowed with 10 million dollars, to finance very unusual accommodation.
Very original accommodations are highly popular, and Airbnb intends to take advantage of this. The platform is therefore launching a fund of ten million dollars to contribute to the financing of “incredible” housing according to its own terms. And to cite, as models, houses in the shape of a boot , a UFO or even a giant potato . The fund will help 100 project leaders, designers, architects and other budding creators.
Its creation is a logical continuation of the launch of Airbnb categories , which can “be useful in the fight against overtourism”, underlines a press release. The category Wow! has been viewed 2.5 million times since its launch in May.
“Full-fledged” destinations
In 2021, more than 30,000 unique listings joined Airbnb. Nights booked at this type of property increased by 49% between 2019 and 2021.
“For two years, travelers have been looking for unique accommodations that have become destinations in their own right,” the statement added.
The Wow Fund call for projects! runs until July 23 at 5:59 a.m. PST. The 100 fund recipients will be selected by a jury of design and architecture experts and a host on Airbnb. Housing should be built next year, they will of course integrate the category Wow! from Airbnb.
