The Federation of e-commerce and distance selling (Fevad) has just published the 2021 results for online sales. In terms of business volume, travel sites grew by 42%, compared to a year 2020 marked by the pandemic. “The recovery of the sector, which began in April, was reinforced in the 3rd quarter , especially from August with the implementation of the health pass”, explains a press release.

However, this catch-up does not make it possible to return to the pre-Covid level. Tourism sites end 2021 down -25% compared to 2019, which remains the benchmark year in the sector.

All products combined, the French spent 129 billion euros on the Internet, which represents an increase of 15.1% over the year. Despite the crisis, the number of e-commerce sites has increased by 11% in one year.

Booking in 9th place

Fevad also shared the digital ranking of brands present in France, established by the audience measurement firm Médiamétrie.

In the fourth quarter of 2021, the e-commerce giant Amazon came out on top, ahead of Leboncoin.fr and Cdiscount.

The first travel site in the broad sense ranks ninth. It is the global hotel reservation giant Booking.com, with 13 million unique visitors per month. Renamed SNCF Connect a few days ago, Oui.sncf ranks 13th, with 11 million visitors. No other brand in the industry is in the top 20.
