This electronic travel authorization will cost around 21 euros.
There will be (again) something new next year to travel to the United Kingdom. After having already introduced a passport requirement , which came into force in October 2021, the English government is preparing to implement an electronic travel authorization (ETA) system, a device similar to that deployed by the United States.
The project was already mentioned last year , for entry into force by the end of 2024. But things seem to be going faster than expected. As reported by our colleagues from Voyages d’Affaires , quoting the British Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Priti Patel, all visitors exempt from visas to enter the United Kingdom will soon have to obtain an electronic authorization of entry (ETA ), which will cost around £18 (about 21 euros).
As the article reports, the device is expected to be trialled from March 2023 with travelers from Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain. European travelers will only be affected in a second phase: the system could then be extended to the rest of the world before the end of next year.
New formalities which are among the – innumerable – consequences of Brexit. Note that for its part Etias, the electronic travel authorization system of the European Union, announced for May 2023 is finally postponed to November of the same year.
This device concerns travelers who are not EU nationals, but exempt from visas, i.e. 61 countries in total.
