73 slow tourism projects supported by the Sustainable Tourism Fund

The France Relance call for projects, which carries the Sustainable Tourism fund, will allow the realization of 73 projects, including 62 in mainland France and 11 in Overseas France.

Created as part of the Destination France plan, the Sustainable Tourism fund aims to support ecological transition and changes in the sector, “in particular the growing aspiration of citizens for more sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism”. It is in this perspective that a call for projects endowed with 4.7 million euros was launched to support “financially the implementation of eco-responsible tourism projects” in rural areas.

18 months to make the projects operational

A call for projects which was successful, since 521 files were submitted. Creation of an eco-lodge in the North, a tourist camp in the Guyanese forest to meet Amerindians, renovation of campsites, electric bike rides… 73 projects were selected, for an average amount granted of 65,000 euros per project. The project leaders selected now have 18 months to implement them and make them operational and marketable.

The program intends to promote the progressive development of “qualified and recognized” slow tourism destinations and “encourage the creation of projects that respect their environment and give pride of place to roaming and soft mobility in the territories”.

A second call for projects will also be launched in a few weeks, thanks to the strengthening of the Sustainable Tourism Fund to the tune of 70 million euros for the period 2022-2024 (compared to 50 million euros for the first period).
