Fevad: e-tourism is slowly picking up color

Online travel sales remain down 26% in the second quarter, compared to the same period in 2019.

According to the Federation of e-commerce and distance selling (Fevad), overall Internet sales increased by 24.9% in the second quarter of 2021. The increase is calculated over one year, all sectors combined.

Travel/tourism sales alone showed “a clear recovery” from April, after -49% in the first quarter of 2021 , due to the pandemic. This dynamic is driven by vaccination and the reopening of certain borders around the world. However, e-tourism remains down compared to 2019 (-26%).

Audience: Airbnb ranked 20th

Our sector has a significant impact on all of e-commerce. With the relative rebound in travel bookings over the period from April to June, the overall mobile sales of the index created by the federation (iCM) accelerated. Their growth climbs to +40% compared to the second quarter of 2020, i.e. +40% compared to the same quarter of 2019.

Another notable fact of the balance sheet: with 9.5 million visits per month on average in the second quarter, the specialist in seasonal rentals Airbnb is positioned 20th among the top 20 most visited sites and applications in France, according to Médiamétrie. The list is dominated by Amazon (35.8 million visits).
