The General Directorate of Consumption of the Balearic Islands proposes a fine of 24,000 euros to each company.
The General Directorate of Consumer Affairs of the Balearic Islands has opened two disciplinary proceedings against the airline Volotea and the travel agency eDreams Odigeo for charging their customers for services that they had not expressly authorized.
The investigation is based on complaints lodged by some consumers who accepted the offer of a discount, without knowing that they were at the same time subscribed to an additional service from the companies, the cost of which exceeded the discount, reports the Preferred media.
Regarding Volotea, the Balearic organization notes a reduction of just over five euros, when simulating the purchase of a Menorca-Asturias ticket. But at the same time, a subscription to the Megavolotea program is activated, for nearly 50 euros per year. At eDreams, various discounts lead to the activation of the Prime service, for an amount of 55 euros.
The Directorate General for Consumer Affairs believes that “the information provided to customers was not sufficiently clear”, reports the consumer association Facua . Which means “they were registered without their express permission. »
According to her, the two companies committed a serious breach of consumer regulations. And deserve, as such, a fine of 24,000 euros each.
